Wednesday have little to lose in derby clash
It is safe to say it is turning into a miserable season for both Sheffield clubs in the Championship, but it could be Wednesday who just have more cause to smile after the first Steel City derby of the campaign on Sunday.
Off-the-field issues have led to the Owls being deducted 12 points after entering administration and they would be at the bottom of the table even without that punishment, having won just once all season and scored only three goals in their eight matches at Hillsborough.
It is going to take a huge effort for them to stay in the second tier, but they would be only two points behind their arch-rivals United had their tally not been reduced and there is little to recommend the Blades at a shade of odds-on to overcome their rivals across the city.
Wilder returns has not sparked transformation
United have had the better of recent derbies – Wednesday have won just one of their last ten – but they have struggled since losing last season’s playoff final against Sunderland and the reappointment of manager Chris Wilder has not really had the desired effect.
