Getafe are getting back up to speed
Getafe are going well again and can secure all three points at home to La Liga’s bottom club Girona on Friday night. Jose Bordealas’ side lost back-to-back league games in the middle of the month to slip into the lower half, but their 1-0 victory at Athletic Club has put them back on track.
The return of young striker Adrian Liso has given Bordelas’ side a big boost. Liso started the season on fire with three goals in his first two games and won the Under-23 player of the month award in August.
He then travelled to Chile to play a minor part in Spain’s unsuccessful attempt to win the Under-20 World Cup, but has returned to bring a sharpness to Getafe’s attacking play again. Liso came off the bench in his side’s 11-0 annihilation of sixth-tier Inter de Valdemoro in midweek and assisted two goals.
Girona almost suffered cup upset
Girona almost became a high-profile cup casualty on the same night when they laboured to a 3-2 win against fifth-tier Constanca after extra time. They were on course for a similar scoreline against Real Oviedo last weekend before David Carno popped in the late leveller in the bottom of the table clash.
Michel Sanchez’s side came back from 2-0 down to lead in that game, but pegging Getafe back will be much harder. Bordelas’ side are one of the hardest-working, most intensive teams in the division and are rarely beaten at home.
Back the hosts to take the win here with a 2-1 scoreline possible. Getafe have not conceded more than one goal at home all season while Girona have failed to score more than once on the road in La Liga.
