Brilliant Bees to secure quarter-spot
Written off by many following a mass exodus in the summer, Brentford continued to silence their doubters in stunning fashion by beating Premier League champions Liverpool 3-2 on Saturday.
The Bees will be buzzing following that victory and while Keith Andrews may name a slightly altered side for Tuesday’s EFL Cup clash against Grimsby, the full-of-confidence Londoners should book their spot in the quarter-finals.
Of course, they won’t be the only giant-slaying side taking to the Blundell Park pitch as their hosts’ penalty-shootout victory over Manchester United will still be in the mind of the Mariners’ fans and players alike.
Mariners may play their part
Grimsby netted twice against United before prevailing on penalties and they should give another Premier League side plenty to think about on Tuesday.
Expect the Mariners to battle hard, but, with the Bees in scintillating form, they may not have enough to continue their fairytale run.
Brentford racked up 2.2 xG against Liverpool and 2.3 when absolutely dominating West Ham before that. They may concede, but wins over Bournemouth and Aston Villa in previous rounds suggest they have more than enough strength in depth to best the Mariners.
