Southampton have endured a tough season so far in the Championship after being relegated but Tuesday’s trip to Bristol City offers a chance to pick up a much-needed three points.
The Saints have only lost two of their 10 games so far but they’ve also only won twice, while the Robins come into the game after ending a four-match winless run at Norwich.
Southampton have drawn back-to-back games against Derby (a) and Swansea (h) but they were unlucky not to win both games, particularly in the game against the Swans where they won the shot count 21-6 – with eight on target to Swansea’s one.
At some points Southampton’s luck should turn if they continue to put together those kinds of performances and Bristol City do look vulnerable at home as they have just one point to show from the last nine available.
If Saints do manage to win they will probably need to score more than once as they have just one clean sheet in their last six overall and Bristol City have scored in four consecutive home games, so a 2-1 win for the visitors seems a reasonable correct score prediction.
Adam Armstrong is Southampton’s top league scorer with three goals and all of those strikes have come in his last five games. The 28-year-old looks the best bet for an anytime goal on Tuesday.
