Villa can take advantage of distracted Spurs
Aston Villa entertain Tottenham in one of two Friday night fixtures in the Premier League but the visitors will have their focus elsewhere.
This is Spurs’ final fixture before next week’s Europa League final against Manchester United, who also play on Friday as they head to Chelsea.
This is a massive game for Villa as a win would push them into the top five, temporarily at least, as they bid reach the Champions League for a second successive season, whereas it means little to Spurs.
Villa can win convincingly
Spurs won 4-1 when these sides met in the reverse fixture back in November but a result for the visitors looks unlikely on Friday.
Tottenham boss Ange Postecoglou will almost certainly field a weakened team – it would be a surprise if Son Heung-min and Micky van de Ven, amongst others, were involved aside from late cameos and Dejan Kulusevski probably won’t play at all after coming off early against Crystal Palace.
Those that do play won’t take any big risks ahead of next week’s final, whereas Villa have a real chance to get into the top five.
Villa have won seven consecutive home games and they can make it eight in a row here. The best bet could be backing the hosts to cover a -1 handicap as Tottenham are in woeful form in the league with just one point from their last five games, and three of their last four losses have come by more than one goal.
Spurs may grab a goal
Clean sheets have been an issue for Villa in the Premier League, particularly at home where they had conceded in nine straight league games at Villa Park prior to a 1-0 win over Fulham earlier this month.
Spurs have only failed to score in one of their last 10 games and may be able to get on the scoresheet, but Villa should still brush aside a rotated Tottenham and a 4-1 home win has a chance.
Ollie Watkins scored the only goal of the game as Villa won 1-0 at Bournemouth last time out and he can add to his account when Spurs visit on Friday.
